Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities,SSANU and Non Academic Staff Union of Education and Associated Institutions,NASU Joint Action Committee has called of the strike which started on 25th October, 2024.
In a statement jointly signed by Prince Adeyemi,General Secretary of NASU and Mohammed Ibrahim National President of SSANU, directed Chairmen of the unions in all Universities and Inter universities centres to convene a joint congress on Monday 4th November,2024 to intimate members of the development and urge them to resume work on Tuesday, 5th October,2024.
The union leaders in the statement disclosed that their decision to suspend the strike for one month follows the irrevocable commitment the union extracted from the Federal Government during high level engagement that they will pay two months out of the four months withheld salaries in staggered form.
According to the statement,the Federal Government agreed to pay the first one month salary end of October(which have largely been done),second one end of November,2024.
The statement reiterated that discussions on the remaining two months salaries,the 50 Billion naira earned allowance,arrears of 25/35 percent and wage award have been revisited and are undergoing deliberations.
