Human Rights Day Celebration: ‘Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now’
December 10, 2024, marks the 76th anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of
Human Rights (UDHR) by the United Nations General Assembly. To commemorate this milestone,
Lawyers Watch for Justice International Initiative(LAWJII) joins the global community in celebrating Human
Rights Day under the theme ‘Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now’.
This year’s theme emphasizes the importance of taking immediate action to protect and promote human rights, ensuring that everyone can enjoy their rights and freedoms without let or
hindrance. It highlights the need for collective efforts to address the pressing human rights
challenges in our nation Nigeria, including poverty, corruption inequality,discrimination on all grounds, and social injustice.
As we celebrate Human Rights Day, we recognize that human rights are not just a distant aspiration, but a present-day imperative.
Lawyers Watch for Justice International Initiative reiterates that we must work together to create a world where everyone can live with dignity, respect, and freedom, and where human rights are a reality for all, without exception.
To mark this occasion, Lawyers Watch is hosting a series of events and activities, including:
1. A panel discussion on the importance of human rights in shaping our future, featuring
experts on human rights, law enforcement agents, human rights defenders and the
academia: 10am, on Tuesday, the 17th day of December, 2024 at Visa Karena Hotel, Port Harcourt;
