The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Nigeria has said that the end of primaries does not mean immediate commencement of campaigns.
In a tweet by the chairman of the commission, Prof Mahmood Yakubu this afternoon, He said section 99(1) prohibits campaign by political parties earlier than 90 days before polling day.
“Going by the electoral act and the 2019 timetable by INEC, campaigns for Presidential and National Assembly elections will commence on November 18, 2018 while Governor and state Assembly election begin 1st December, 2018”.
“I call on all political parties and candidates to adhere strictly to these dates”.
