Nigeria-The Rivers State Commissioner of Police,CP Olugbenga Adepoju on Tuesday,7th January,2025 visited the surviving victims of the oroazi gas explosion at the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital,old GRA,PortHarcourt.
CP Adepoju who sympathized with the victims, said his Area Commander in charge of Oroazi community has also visited victims of the explosion in other hospital.
The Rivers Police Chief adviced residents of the state to be safety conscious when using gas cylinder.He equally urged residents to report to relevant authorities when the persons in business of refilling gas are engaged in unsafe act that can cause accident that can result to injuries and loss of lives.
The Rivers CP described the condition of the patients as pathetic and worrisome while praying for their quick recovery.
The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the hospital, Professor Chizindu Alikor who received the Commissioner of Police and his team, said sixteen persons were brought in on Saturday,4th,January,2025.Twelve adults and four chiodren and the hospital have been working tirely to ensure they are stable.
Professor Alikor disclosed that with the full support from Rivers State Government, Commissioner for Health, the hospital is attending to the victims.
He said other well meaning Nigerians have also been coming around.
Professor Alikor disclosed that unfortunately two persons, an adult and a child has died but the hospital is doing its best to ensure the patients are stable and in good condition.
The Commissioner of Police was taken round the ward where the victims are admitted by the CMD.
Recall that atleast twenty persons were injured when a gas exploded at oroazi axis of Mile 4,Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers state on Saturday,4,2025.
