The Controller General of the Federal Fire Service (FFS), Engr. Abdulganiyu O. Jaji, has announced that in 2024, the Federal Fire Service successfully saved property valued at ₦1.94 trillion, while an estimated ₦67.1 billion worth of property were lost.
The FFS Boss made the disclosure in a press briefing on Friday 10,January 2025.
He Expressed his heartfelt condolences to families who suffered various degrees of loss, the CG, Engr. Jaji, noted that numerous lives, limbs, and properties were rescued during the year.
The CG FFS said
“Currently, we are in the harmattan season, a period characterized by low humidity, which heightens the risk of static sparks and gas explosions that can spread rapidly. I urge the public to be vigilant, as fire is a delicate and dynamic force that demands heightened caution and awareness.
“This year, we will continue to advance our goals through robust strategies, operational efficiency, and proactive measures. Our focus will also include raising public awareness and improving response times by leveraging cutting-edge technologies such as the National Fire Detection and Alarm System (NAFDAS) and the Fire Alarm App, known as N-Alert.”
The CG further assured the public of plans to establish fire stations in Lugbe, Maitama, Guzape, and other locations in 2025 to reduce response times to emergencies nationwide. He also called on stakeholders to support efforts toward a robust legal framework to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of firefighting and rescue operations.
“Today, I reaffirm my dedication to ensuring that the Federal Fire Service fulfills its mandate. We will strive to meet public trust and justify investments with commendable results” the FFS CG stated
He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo for their unwavering support.
