The Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC) in Nigeria has denied planning to shut down internet services during the 2019 general elections as alleged by Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state
The INEC national commissioner on voters education and information Festus Okoye in a training programme of media personnel in southern east Nigeria at Akwa in Anambra state yesterday(February 1st,2019) said”the INEC smart card reader depends on internet so there is no the commission can shut down internet “
Also,a statement from the office of the National Security Adviser denied the alleged plan of shutting down internet services on elections day
It will be recalled that Governor Wike while campaigning for 2019 elections alleged that the National security Adviser, INEC held meeting with telecommunications compcompany to brainstorm on how to shut down internet services on elections day so that the world will not know what the federal Government is doing
