A Civil Society Organization known as Civil Rights Council in Rivers state,Nigeria has condemned the invasion of major night clubs in PortHarcourt by Nigerian Army.

A statement issued by the Secretary of the group Green Isaac on Tuesday March 6,2019 read :

Ladies and Gentlemen, it has come to our knowledge of the sad event that took place in the late hours of Tuesday 5th of March 2019, where the Nigeria Army was said to have invaded and raided all clubs, bars and restaurants in Portharcourt G.R.A and arrested over 300 persons without cause.

While the civil rights council would not want to join issues with any law enforcement agencies carrying out their duties, we urge them all to do that within the armbits of the law.

Therefore, we condemn in strong terms whatsoever the cause maybe, the invasion on club houses in the city of Port Harcourt in such a commando Manner’s thereby causing fear and intimidation especially as we approach the 2019 gubernatorial elections which is just 2days away.

We urge the Nigeria army to immediately release the those in their custody and make way for proper investigation if any case arises within the proper channels and the right enforcement agencies to carryout such mandates at any given time.

We want to further cements that Nigeria is not at war with herself.

If there are strong issues to investigate or deal with, we have the Nigeria Police, the Department of State Security Services (DSS) and all other agencies charged with such responsibility of deal with the civilians. We asked that we don’t turn Nigeria or Any part of the country to a state where citizens lives in fear even without war.

The Civil Rights Council Port Harcourt once again condemn the action of the Nigeria Army for whatever reason.

The Nigerian Army is yet to make an official statement on the issue
