Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state has announced the award of 200 Million naira scholarship award to the children of Dr. Ferry Gberegbe who died as a result of gunshots sustained from shooting by suspected officials of Special Anti-Robbery Squad(SARS) at the collation centre for the Governorship and House of Assembly election in Bori, Khana local Government area of Rivers state,Nigeria
The Governor made this assertion when He in company of other Peoples Democratic Party leaders visited the family of late Dr. Gberegbe on Saturday,March 16,2019
The Governor asked the widow of late Dr. Gberegbe to open Bank Account for the four children, adding that 50 Million naira each will be deposited in their account
The Governor explained that Dr. Gberegbe who was the PDP party agent in the March 9,2019 in Khana Local Government area of Rivers state and also the immediate past Chairman of Academic Staff Union of Polythenics(ASUP) Ken Saro-Wiwa Polythenics,Bori,Rivers state died defending democracy.
It will be recalled that Dr. Gberegbe was shot on March 9,2019 during collation process of the Governorship and House of Assembly election when suspected SARS officials of Nigerian Police who came to hijack electoral materials opened fire on Dr. Gberegbe and others
The Rivers state Police command is yet to speak on the development
The Independent National Electoral Commission in Nigeria in a statement released on March 15,2019 by Fetus Okoye its National Commissioner on voters education and information accused the Nigerian Soldiers and armed thugs of disrupting collation process in the March 9,Governorship elections in the state
