The Nigeria Senate has directed the central Bank to suspend the ATM charges deducted from bank customers pending investigation by Senate committee on Banking, Insurance and other financial institutions. The Senate made this resolution after a heated debate on the floor of the house today,following a bill sponsored by Senator Olugbenga Ashafa of Lagos East Senatorial district.
The Senate also resolved to direct the committee on banking, insurance and other financial institutions to conduct investigation into propriety of ATM card maintenance charges in comparison with international best practices .
The Senate also urged the Customers Protection Council to be up and doing in taking up plight of ordinary Nigerians by looking into complaints of excess and unnecessary charges by Nigerian Banks.BELOW IS THE DETAILS OF RESOLUTION MADE BY SENATE ON THE ISSUE
