Civil Rights Council PortHarcourt has issued 72 hours ultimatum to Hon Victor Ihunwo, chairman of PortHarcourt local government area of Rivers State to continue the funding of treatment of Mrs Rachael Paul who was shot by his Police aide on May 8,2019 along Bishop Okoye street Mile 3 Diobu, PortHarcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria or risk legal action

A statement released on June 3,2019 by Prince Wiro the spokesperson of Civil Rights Council PortHarcourt explained that the organization shall use all democratic and legal means to compel the Mayor to do the right thing

Civil Rights Council in the statement revealed that it is highly disturbed that after the Woman was discharged from the hospital on May 15,2019 the Mayor of PortHarcourt has stopped funding the treatment of the woman which has made the hospital to halt all medical attention due her

Despite several plea by the woman to the Mayor through text messages and calls on the development that the hospital is demanding for more money, the Mayor has refused to attend to the woman

Civil Rights Council said “the Mayor should know that the Woman has become His responsibility from the day His Police aide shot the woman”

“We believe that the Mayor is vicariously liable for the action of his Police aide and should as a matter of urgency continue the funding of the woman’s treatment ”

Civil Rights Council in the statement threatened to mobilize other Civil Society Organizations in the state for a protest against the Mayor

The organization equally threatened to Petition the Governor of Rivers State, Commissioner of Police, National Human Rights Commission, International Federation of Female Lawyers,(FIDA) Rivers State chapter and may seek legal redress in court of competent jurisdiction for the Woman if the need be
