…As Participants Call On World Leaders To Give Attention To Climate Issues

Members of  Relief International Africa in conjunction with Social Development Integrated Centre (Social Action),Advocacy Centre, Civil Rights Council ,Red Cross, Peace Corps of Nigeria, National Youth Service Corps, Media trooped out in their numbers Today 21,September,2019  to celebrate this year International  Peace Day in Port Harcourt ,Rivers State, Nigeria with the Theme “ Climate Action For Peace”.

Ambassador Green Isaac lead Director of Relief International Africa in his address said ‘today walk was necessary because we are celebrating the International Peace Day for 2019, and it is celebrated every 21 September of every year which was set aside by the United Nations’.

Ambassador Isaac explained that the 2019 celebration is remarkable because the theme talks about climate change, how young and older people can come together and create an atmosphere of peace.

He stated that everything about climate change, climate strike should be centered on peace.

The lead Director of Relief International Africa further said ‘our advocacy should be centered on peace, what we are doing today is giving our voices in building a peaceful society’.

He added that the groups looked at a lot of activities and decided that there is need to walk in the street today that is while they all came out in their numbers today for a peace walk.

Fyneface  Dumnamene Fyneface   an Environmental Justice Activist and Public affairs commentator  in his own contribuction said ‘the peace walk is very important to mark the International Peace Day because We are using it to call attention of the Government, Policy makers and of course world leaders  to do everything they can to give attention to climate issues that is devastating our environment and making people not to live in peace’.

According to the Environmental Activist, People are not living in peace today across the world because of environmental issues and it is for them to take actions.

He revealed that   because of the love  He have for the environment and climate made him three years ago, to go to United Nations to call the attention of the world to the environmental challenges facing the society.

Our correspondents reports that the walk started from Rumuola junction along Aba road and terminated at Isaac Boro Paark. Security operatives from Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigeria Police as well as Federal Road Safety Personnel were all in attendance.
