The family of late Chima Ikwunado who was allegedly Killed by the Eagle Crack Police unit in Rivers State,Nigeria has rubbished reports by the Police that their son died of diabetes(High Sugar Level).
The immediate Elder brother to late Chima Ikwunado told Revelation Agents on phone that his brother has no history of diabetes and is not on drugs.
He accused the Police of torturing the suspect to death shortly after he was arrested.
Chima’s brother claimed that the people who was arrested together with Chima told them how the Police in Eagle crack tortured him until he passed out.
The spokesperson of Rivers State Police command,Deputy Superintendent of Police(DSP) Omoni Nnamdi had in a statement released on Friday 17 January 2020 said late Chima died of high sugar level in the Eagle crack detention facility.
Chima was arrested on 19 December 2019 alongside four other persons for driving against traffic.
On getting to the station the Eagle crack Police unit later claimed they are investigating a case of robbery and cultism against them.
After Chima’s death the remaining four was arraigned in court on charge s bordering on cultism.
At the last meantime Human Rights Organizations in Rivers State has called on the Inspector General of Police,IGP Mohammed Adamu to ensure Justice is served in the matter.
Prince Wiro, Chairman of Civil Rights Council,Rivers State made the request in a statement in PortHarcourt yesterday. He regretted that the Police is still indulging in torture despite the anti-torture act 2017 passed into law by the Federal Government of Nigeria.
