The PortHarcourt branch of Nigeria Bar Association(NBA) has called for the immediate disbandment of Eagle(Commissioner of Police) crack unit over alleged hujan rights abuses in Rivers state.
Sylvester Adaka,Chairman of NBA PortHarcourt branch made the demand in a media briefing yesterday 29 January 2020.Barrister Adaka who was reacting to the discharge and acquittal of four persons by a misgistrate court accused of cultism and armedrobbery by the Eagle Crack Police Unit said the group has also written to Inspector General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu toh investigate teh death of Chima Ikwunado in detention facility of the Eagle Crack Police unit and the officers who tortured the four accused persons discharged by the court yesterday.
It will be recalled that the Police through its spokesperson,Deputy Superintendent of Police(DSP) Nnamdi Omoni claimed that Chima died of high sugar,a statement the family rejected.
