The Foundation for Partnership Initiatives in the Niger Delta also known as PIND signed a Memorandum of Understanding with RIVTAF Nigeria Limited today 31 January 2020 in the quest to empower more Youth in Rivers state.
Speaking to Journalist at the sideline of the event, the Chief Executive Officer/Managing Director of TAF Africa Global who are in partnership with Rivers State Government under the auspices of RIVTAF, Mustapha Njie said “we intend to develop youth from the Niger Delta in partnership with our contractors,over the past 7-8 years we have developed contractors within the region and these contractors are going to have these youth who are trained under PIND to work as skilled personnel”.
Mr Njie further said “what we want to achieve is to generate employment in order for young people to make a living which will in turn reduce crime in the region”.
On his part,Assan Sosseh,the Regional Manager of TAF Global Africa disclosed that the organization is in partnership with Rivers State Government,PIND to teach skills that are sustainable not only in the RIVTAF projects but skills that can be used somewhere else.
He explained that the partnership with PIND will open up more Youth to learn skills under those that have gone through the process to enable them earn a living .
The Project lead of Niger Delta Youth Employment Pathways(NDYEP) a programme designed by PIND for peace building and economic development, Mr Emeka Ile in an interview with Journalists stated that they are promoting demand led kind of training programme where young people acquire skills that are demand driven and market relevant.
He said “we have been able to merge the trainers with the companies that demand those skills,there is no way we can do a training without having an eye on the end market”.
The Proreject lead of NDYEP further stated that the training is not just for training sake but for the market.
The Director-General of PortHarcourt Chamber of Commerce Industry,Mines and Agriculture(PHCCIMA) Erasmus Chukwunda said “the partnership we help our youth to be equipped with relevant skills that we make them employable in companies”.
Mr Chukwunda revealed that PHCCIMA is working with PIND and other stakeholders to ensure the youth are not only trained but gainfully employed.
He further stated that one of the benefits of the MOU between PIND and RIVTAF is that trained youth will be given internship programme to improve on skills they have learnt.
In his contribuction, Senior Project Manager of RIVTAF projects Engr.Samson Abu Meshack revealed that the partnership will transform the life of the youth in many ways .He said “the scheme will help to take them off the street and engage them meaningfully”.
A contractor who part of the event Mr.Desmond Ebede stated it will be an opportunity for him to contribute his quota to development of youth in Rivers State, Niger Delta at large. He revealed that the youth can be trained in painting, mixers, engineering etc depending on where they we fit in.
Another Contractor Engr Godswill Sika for his part said “the trainees that will be found worthy after the training will be employed and given an opportunity to serve”.
The highlight of the event was the signing of MOU between PIND and RIVTAF executives.
