The Anti-kidnapping Unit of Rivers State Police command led by Chief Superintendent of Police(CSP), Collins Edward Shadar in total compliance to the directive of the President of Federal Republic of Nigeria,Muhamadu Buhari has arrested two fleeing members of a deadly gang that abducted,killed and buried three undergraduates students namely Joy Adoki,(Student of University of Port Harcourt),Fortune Obemba(Rivers State University) and Nelson Nwafor .
Briefing newsmen on Wednesday at the State headquarters of Rivers State Police Command,Moscow road,Port Harcourt,the Commissioner of Police(CP),Joseph Mukan revealed that discreet investigation and further confession of the suspects in custody of the Rivers State Police command led to arrest of the 4th and 5th suspects,namely : Isaac ThankGod native of Eken in Khana local Government area of Rivers State and Christian Chimezie Mbakwe,a native of Obonwo in Obowo Local Government area of Imo State.
CP Mukan disclosed that the 5th suspect was arrested in Imo state where the Toyota Avalon Car with registration number LSR 197 FY belonging to Nelson Nwafor one of the deceased was from the suspect.
CP Mukan reiterated his commitment to tackle all manner of criminality in the state while assuring that Justice will be served in the matter.
It would be recalled that the Anti-Kidnapping unit of Rivers State Police command in its efforts to key in to the policy of the new Rivera State Commissioner of Police,CP Joseph Mukan to rid the state of criminal elements arrested three members of the kidnap gang(Bright Iheachi, Emmanuel Kamiwelisha and Friday Akpan) who abducted,killed and buried the three undergraduates in a shallow grave at Eteo,Eleme Local Government area of Rivers state.
One of the suspects,Friday Akpan who spoke to newsmen when the Police led Journalists to the scene of the crime on May 1,2020 said they abducted the victims(Joy Adoki, Nelson Nwafor and Fortune Obemba ) on the order of the leader of the gang Bright Iheachi who told them that one of the victims(Nelson Nwafor) betrayed him after money was paid into his account in a business venture.
Mr. Akpan explained that they killed and buried the 3 victims after raping the female among them, Joy Adoki .
The acclaimed leader of the gang Bright Iheachi told Journalists at Police headquarters that he ordered the execution of three undergraduates because one of them,Nelson Nwafor ate 4.5million naira due him(Bright) after a business deal and ran to Ghana.
On his part,Mr Bright Obemba,Father to Fortune Obemba(one of the victims) thanked President Muhammadu Buhari,the Rivers State Government, The Rivers State Police Command and in particular,Anti-Kidnapping unit led by CSP Shadar for their contribution in setting the pace for Justice.
The spokesperson of Rivers State Police command,DSP Nnamdi Omoni had on May 1,2020 disclosed to newsmen at the scene of the crime that the Anti-Cultism unit led by it commander,Chief Superintendent of Police(CSP) Collins Edward Shadar swung into action after a case of kidnap of the three undergraduates was reported to the unit.
Items recovered from the suspects include one AK 47 riffle,three magazines,72 rounds of live ammunition.
Our correspondent reports that the corpse of the victims were exhumed by the Police that May 1,2020 at the thick forest in Eteo,Eleme local Government area.
President Muhammadu Buhari had given a marching order to Rivers State Police Command to ensure the arrest of fleeing members of the gang after the arrest of the initial three.
