Succour may have come the way of Mrs Chizoba Eke, the woman who was thrown into a septic tank before her six month old baby was kidnapped by her assailants .This follows a visit by Greater Women Initiative For Health And Right(GWIHR) on Friday to the victim at the hospital where she is receiving treatment.
Addressing Journalists after a meeting with the Chief Medical Director of the hospital,the Executive Director of GWIHR Josephine Chioma Aseme who was represented by a Programme Officer, Peace Bai condemned the attempted murder of Mrs Eke and abduction of the six month old baby and described it as barbaric,inhumane and wicked.
Aseme disclosed that her organisation was at the hospital in show of solidarity with the victim and to render financial support in terms of medical bill payment. She also revealed that the organisation has concluded arrangement to transfer the victim to a Government hospital for adequate medical attention .
The Executive Director of GWIHR urged the Police to ensure due diligence in process of investigation to ensure justice is served in the matter.
Also a Human Rights Advocate in Rivers State, Prince Wiro who was part of the delegation described the incident as shocking.
Mr. Wiro called on the Commissioner of Police Rivers State,CP Joseph Mukan to ensure investigation is concluded in record time and suspect arraigned in court of competent jurisdiction.
Earlier, the husband to the victim,Mr Eke Prince Eke thanked the delegation for coming to their rescue.
Mr Eke noted that he is overwhelmed with joy by the good gesture of GWIHR to assist him to pay for medical bill of his wife.
Our correspondent reports that a token was given to Mr Eke by GWIHR for upkeep of the family .
The reason for the attempted murder of the woman and kidnap of the six month old baby is yet to be ascertained but report suggest that the perpetrators may have taken advantage of the poor financial condition of the family to perpetrate the crime against them.
It would be recalled that suspected kidnappers last Monday threw Mrs Eke into a septic tank at Igwurita in Ikwerre local Government Area of Rivers State before kidnapping her six months old baby.
Mrs Eke was rescued after three days by residents who heard her screaming.
The Rivers State Police Command also confirmed the arrest of the suspect and rescue of the six month old baby at Omerelu boundary between Rivers and Imo state.
