One of the arsonists who threw substance suspected to be dynamite on Governor Wike Father’s Church Christain Universal International at Azikiwe Street Mile 2 PortHarcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria is said have worshipped in the church on three occasions before the attack.
Eyewitness who interrogated the suspects said one of them reportedly admitted to have worshipped in the church before carrying out the attack.
Assistant Chief Security Officer of Azikiwe Street Mile 2 Diobu PortHarcourt, Rivers State Collins Johnbull in an interview with our reporter said on Saturday night they saw five men entering the church at about 9pm but they thought it was church members.
Collins disclosed that after some minutes they heard a loud sound suspected to be dynamite and they saw the hoodlums running out with guns.
Collins johnbull said himself and his men mobilized immediately and arrested three of the suspects before arrival of the Police.
Another security personnel Uche Brown said one of their members is in the hospital because of the injury he sustained when going after the hoodlums.They pleaded for assistance from the Governor interms of payment of medical bill.
Meanwhile the spokesperson of Rivers State Police command SP Nnamdi Omoni who was at the scene told newsmen that three of the arrested suspects are in the hospital receiving treatment. SP Omoni said the Commissioner of Police has ordered a full scale investigation into the incident with a view to arresting sponsors and collaborators of the crime.
SP Omoni Nnamdi said the Police has brought the area under control there is no need for alarm.
Our correspondent reports that there is heavy presence of security agencies at the place Ikoku/Azikiwe junction to /Azikiwe to UBA bank in Azikiwe Street has been closed to traffic. .
The glass in the building was shattered were shattered but no life was lost.
The suspects has been handed over to the Police as at press time.
