A tricycle driver yet to be identified was shot dead allegedly by a Police Officer at Rupokwu town in Obi/Akpor local Government area of Rivers State, Nigeria on Thursday morning December 10,2020.
We learned that the tricycle driver refused to give the said Police officer one hundred naira which infuriated the Police officer who reportedly shot dead the tricycle driver.
We gathered that the incident resulted to heavy protest in Rupokwu as hoodlums as commuters were stranded.
The spokesperson of Rivers State Police command SP Nnamdi Omoni in a text message to our correspondent confirmed the incident while adding that action is in place.
As at the time of this report,we learned that the Police officer said to be responsible for the killing of the tricycle driver has been disarmed and presently in detention.
Meanwhile Centre For Basic Rights Protection And Accountability Campaign has called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances that led to the shooting to death of a tricycle driver allegedly by a Police Officer with a view to bringing the perpetrator to book.
