One Michael Onu suspected to be a member of vigilance group on Tuesday 17th February 2021 was arraigned before a Senior Magistrate court presided by Senior magistrate C. B. Okekem at Rumuepirikom magisterial district on two count charges of unlawful assault.
Arraigning the suspect, the charge sheet read
That you Michael Onu ‘m’ on the 14th day of February,2021 at unity close Chinda road Port Harcourt in Rumuepirikom Magisterial district did unlawfully assault one Goodluck Sunday ‘m’ by using a machet to cut his hand and shoulder which caused him harm and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 355 of the criminal code Cap 37 vol. 11 laws of Rivers State of Nigeria 1999.
The second count read that you Michael Onu ‘m’ on the 14th day of February,2021 at unity close Chinda road Port Harcourt in the Rumuepirikom magisterial district with intent to maim, disfigure or do some grievous harm, unlawfully assault one Goodluck Sunday, ‘m’ by cutting him machet on his left hand and shoulder which caused him harm and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 332(1) of the criminal code Cap 37 Vol. 11 laws of Rivers State of Nigeria 1999.
When the charges was read to the defendant he pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor K. M Osisi did not oppose the bail application by the defendant’s lawyer.
The defendant was granted bail in two hundred thousand naira with one surety in like sum.
The case was adjourned to April 22nd 2021 for hearing.
