Final Year Student Shot By Gunmen Suspected To Be Cultists In Rivers State University Narrates Ordeal

Ogolo Blessing who said he is a final year student of mathematics department at the Rivers State University(RiSU),Nkpolu Oruworokwo, Port Harcourt has narrated how he arrested one of his assailants who shot severally at him on  campus last week Wednesday 10th March 2021.

Ogolo in a telephone interview with our correspondent explained that before the  incident of 10th March 2021,some boys believed to be students,attacked him at the institution back gate with gun and machete sometime ago,they used machete on him and dispossessed him of his phone. 
Ogolo stated that, he apprehended them with the help of Azikiwe Divisional Police headquarters at illabouchi Mile 2 Diobu, Port Harcourt and the Police recovered guns from two of his assailants. 
He said “they were transferred to Special Anti-Robbery Squad(SARS) and at SARS,they started saying about the death of one Prince Tuaka and I told them I do not belong to any cult group and do not know about the death of any Prince Tuaka”.
Ogolo disclosed that last Wednesday 10th March 2021,after his examination, as he came out from the class,three gunmen led by his course mate simply identified as Michael attacked and shot severally at him but when he noticed, he did not sustain any injury, he chased them and apprehended one of them whom he handed over to the school security that in turn handed him over to the Police. 
The spokesperson of Rivers State Police command,SP Nnamdi Omoni confirmed the incident in a text message to our reporter while adding that the suspect has been transferred to State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department(SCIID).
it would also be recalled that the spokesperson of Rivers State Police command, SP Omoni had blamed supremacy battle between two rival cult groups of the Rivers State University when Prince Tuaka,a final year student was shot dead in RiSU campus in July 2019.
In the meantime, a rights advocacy group, Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign has frowned at the seeming resurgence of gang activities at the Rivers State University .
The coordinator of the group, Prince Wiro in a statement in Port Harcourt on Monday 15th March,2021 called on the institution management to synergize with the Police to arrest the re-emergence of cult activities in the school with a view to ensuring the safety of students,staff and other people doing business in the institution. 
Mr Wiro advised students of the institution to shun cultism and focus on their studies in order to justify the reason they were admitted into the University.
