
A Non Governmental Organization (NGO) known as Uyom Iban Development Initiative has called for an end to human practices that leads to degradation of the Ecosystem.
The representative of the organization, Pauline Ikpa made the call in an event at Eleme,Rivers State, Nigeria on Saturday, 5,June,2021 to mark the World Environment Day.
Pauline the representative of Uyom Iban Development Initiative urged the participants to imbibe the culture of tree planting and put an end to indiscriminate falling of trees.
Pauline Ikpa said the theme of the World Environment Day “Restoration of Ecosystem” targets recovery of Ecosystem that have been degraded or destroyed as well as initiating human practice that will conserve the Ecosystem that are still intact.
In her response, Fumi Jack who spoke on behalf of the female participants disclosed that some of the women participants have gardens close to their homes and will enhance the culture of tree planting.
Fumi noted that apart from the role of the garden and plants in preserving the Ecosystem,some plants in the garden are also of great medicinal value to them.
Fumi commended Uyom Iban Development Initiative for choosing Eleme as the venue of celebration of the event and promised to put the knowledge acquired in the event to practical use.
