
The wife of Inspector General of Police of Nigeria, Mrs Hajiya Hajara Usman Alkali Baba has empowered over twenty -two widows of slain Police Officers in Rivers State .
The widows were empowered with items like sowing machines, grinding machines,food stuffs,cash gift etc on Thursday in
Port Harcourt.
In an interview with Journalists at the sideline of the event,Mrs Hajara Alkali said aside the empowerment,she is in Rivers state to encourage the wives of slain and serving Police Officers because so many of them are demoralized at what has being going on in the country as regards attack to Police officers.
Mrs Hajara disclosed that Rivers state is the second state she has visited since her assumption of office as the National President of Police Officers Wives Association (POWA).
Some of the widows who spoke to our correspondent thanked the wife of the Inspector General of Police for her kind gesture and motherly disposition.
Earlier,the Chairperson of POWA in Rivers state and wife of Rivers state Commissioner of Police, Mrs Chimelum Eboka thanked the IGP’s wife for visiting Rivers state while assuring her of maximum support of POWA,Rivers state chapter to IGP Alkali Baba Usman.
In the same vein, the wife of the IGP Usman Alkali gave awards to four female Divisional Police Officers(DPO) who has distinguished themselves in area of crime fighting and professional policing.
CSP Christiana Cyril,CSP Grace Nwonwu, CSP Egbedi Nneka and SP Hierieta Eboka,DPOs of Nkpolu,Ozuoba,Agbali and Woji respectively were recipients of the award.
CSP Nneka Egbedi who spoke on behalf of other awardees expressed gratitude to the wife of the IGP.
CSP Egbedi said though the award is a privilege but they have worked hard to deserve it.
CSP Egbedi stated that they will continue to put in their best to protect their jurisdiction and advocate for more space to be given to women as DPOs.
Our correspondent reports that the POWA National President also commissioned some projects since her arrival in Rivers state last Tuesday.
