A man known as Barisunwa Information who was reportedly beaten to coma on allegation of stealing before he was rescued by the Choba Area Command of the Rivers State Police command may be arraigned in court on Monday March 21,2022 even as the family of the Mr information has expressed concern on his health status in Police custody.
We gathered that the Police last Wednesday(16,March,2022) responded to a distress call on the mob action being carried out on Mr Information after a woman who saw him in her compound around University of PortHarcourt,Choba in the afternoon accused him of being a thief and raised alarm that attracted passersby to the scene.
Mr Barika Naasua,a brother to Mr Information in an interview with our reporter expressed regret that despite the fact that their brother is innocent of the crime he was accused of and beaten to coma,the Area Command Choba is insisting on arraigning him in court.Mr Naasua disclosed that they have not also seen the woman who raised the alarm that attracted the mob that beat Mr Information to comma.Mr Naasua explained that the Police took Mr Information to University of PortHarcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) and put him on hand cuffs while he was receiving treatment.He further explained that the family was asked to pay the bills that Mr Information had incurred in the course of his treatment on Friday 18,March,2022 after which the Police took him(Mr Information) back to the station and put him in the cell.He said on getting to the station on Saturday morning (19,March,2022) the Investigating Police Officer (IPO) declined granting Mr Information bail maintaining that there is an order that he should be arraigned in court on Monday.Mr Naasua urged the Police to release their brother as he is innocent of the allegation against him.
