The Rivers Stare Commissioner of Police, CP Effiong Okon has warned against improper dressing by Police officers in the state.CP Okon gave the warning during his operational tour to Oyigbo,Choba and PortHarcourt Area Commands inline with the forth coming 2023 election.
He said officers should be properly dressed; some wear camouflage with T-shirts and office shoes, which is improper dressing since camouflage is meant to be worn with boots.CP Okon revealed that the command has set up a team to monitor and arrest any officer who is not properly dressed.
The Rivers Police Boss emphasize on discipline on the job, saying that police work is a noble profession and officers ought to be disciplined and have wisdom about what to do at the right time.
The CP reminded the police personnel to be civil with the public; they should not be involved in any activity that will jeopardize their job; and DPOs should supervise their men during the election.
He advised officers to build courage because they should keep in mind that they will be posted alongside other agencies.
He also said the command is expecting some vehicles from the state government, which will be distributed to all Area Commanders and DPOs
The CP assured the personnel that an ICT center will be installed to develop their knowledge.
He promised to have a town hall meeting with the officers, and no matter the question they asked, no one would be victimized.
The CP proceeded to address the traditional rulers; he advised them to educate their children concerning the election and that they should maintain peace and avoid violence, which they should not allow themselves to be used.
He reminded them that police work is not one man’s thing; that is why there is community policing to get information.
Responding to a question from an inspector from Oyigbo Area Command, why should the police be civil with the public when the public hates the police? The CP responded that if the civilian is hostile, the officer can meet the chairman or youth leader and report his conduct. He warned against fighting with civilians in public. He advised that police personnel should stay safe and be professional.
One of the traditional rulers and a PCRC member thanked the CP for having time to visit them and also visit the command, saying that they have been working hand in hand with the police in their area of jurisdiction to make sure everything is in place, but they are having problems with the rank and file and that they should educate them on what the PCRC is all about.
