Relief International Africa, a leading non-profit organization dedicated to Human Rights, humanitarian aid and development, is deeply concerned about recent allegations of financial mismanagement within the Nigerian Senate. Reports have surfaced regarding the discovery of 3.7 trillion Naira in the 2024 Budget that is not linked to any specific project, as alleged by Senator Ningi.

In light of these alarming allegations, Relief International Africa is calling upon the leadership of the Nigeria Senate to demonstrate transparency and accountability by promptly establishing, with documentation, the intended use of the 3.7 trillion Naira funds. Nigerians have a right to know how their taxpayer money is being utilized, especially when it is not allocated to specific projects as intended.

Therefore, Relief International Africa hereby issues a 14-day ultimatum to the Nigeria Senate leadership to furnish the public with comprehensive documentation detailing their plans for the alleged 3.7 trillion Naira or face civil disobedience and legal action. This documentation should include clear explanations of how the funds will be allocated and utilized for the betterment of the Nigerian people.

Also, Relief International Africa strongly condemns the suspension of Senator Ningi by the Senate. Suspending a sitting senator for raising legitimate concerns about financial accountability undermines the principles of democracy and freedom of speech. It is imperative that elected officials are allowed to fulfill their duties without fear of reprisal for advocating for transparency and accountability in government affairs.

Relief International Africa urges the Nigeria Senate to reconsider its decision and reinstate Senator Ningi immediately, allowing him to continue his important work in representing his constituency and the interests of the Nigerian people.

As an organization committed to promoting good governance and accountability, Relief International Africa will continue to monitor the situation closely and advocate for transparency, integrity, and democracy in Nigeria’s legislative processes.
