The Assistant Inspector General of Police(AIG) Zone 16 comprising Bayelsa and Rivers State Police Commands,AIG Paul Omata has commended the Rivers State Commissioner of Police(CP) Olatunji Disu for his achievements in crime fighting in the state.AIG Omata stated that crime fighting in Rivers state which has a metropolitan city is not an easy task.
AIG Omata said “I came to Rivers State to introduce myself as AIG zone 16, so that the officers and men of Rivers Command will know me.I want to congratulate the CP for the award he received as the best Command Commissioner of Police.
“Rivers State is moving very well interms of crime fighting. My duty is to supervise the Commissioners of Police in Rivers and Bayelsa Command. I came to see what they are doing and give them word of encouragement and ensure people of Rivers sleep with their two eyes closed and go about their normal bussiness.
“Is not easy to bring crime down in the state because of the metropolitan city.It takes alot to Police Rivers.I brought IGP message to you,He said you should continue to abide by ethics of the job and shun any misconduct capable of bringng Police name to disrepute.
“Policing is not a one man duty.Both the Police and the citizens has responsibility to guard their environment.We will up our game on intelligence,to effectively nip crime in the bud before it happens. I will also support the CP with manpower if there is a gap”.
AIG Omata also thanked CP Disu and his Management team,officers and men of the command for their relentless effort in reducing crime to the bearest minimum.
He said IGP has being trying his best interms of welfare of officers, for instance the housing scheme the IGP implemented which captures low cadre and also promotion of junior and senior officers.
CP Olatunji Disu,Commissioner of Police In Rivers State told AIG Omata that officers of the command Work together like brothers and sisters.
He disclosed that the command is happy to reiceive the AIG and has learnt from his lecture to the officers.
CP Disu said “those who need encouragement are always encouraged.There is no boundary in Rivers state interms of crime fighting.
“Rivers State is one of the state in South South,Nigeria.It is strategic economic hub of the country with 10 Area commands and 70 Police Divisions.
“I assumed office five months ago and went round to assess the security situation and draw up template for crime fighting.All I needed to do,Is to tell my officers what need to be done and result are gotten.
“We also thank IGP for recognizing the Rivers State Police command for the award.The award was for all officers of the command.
“The Rivers State Government works with the command.The Government has assited in repairs of patrol vehicles”.
CP Disu however listed shortage of anti riot equipment,shortage of armoured Personnel Carrier,shortage of Manpower as some challenges facing the command.
CP Disu pleaded with the AIG to assist the command with more manpower as the command has new Police stations that need Manpower.
The Rivers Police Boss also listed Shortage of barrack acomodation as another challenge..He said though the Command has received visitors from headquarters who came to inspect the barrack but the AIG should look into the challenges facing the command.
On killing of two Police Inspectors in the State,CP Disu noted that nobody kills anybody either a civilian or Police officer and goes scot free.CP Disu disclosed that arrests has been made as regards killing of the female Inspector and efforts are on to arrest those behind death the male inspector’s death
