Civil Rights Council, Rivers State has called on the Management of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education(IAUE) to make public the name of the lecturer who was sacked by the University on 2nd September 2019 for sexual harassment of female students as revealed by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Ozo-Mekuri Ndimele in an interview with a of a Radio station based in Port Harcourt.
Civil Rights Council believe that making the name public is necessary as institutions of higher learning in the state and other parts of the country that are unaware of the nefarious activities of the lecturer may employ him and in turn he will continue the harassment of female students in such institution. We are of the view that making the identity known will enable the appropriate law enforcement agencies to prosecute the erring lecturer in line with the law. Civil Rights Council urge the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education to take a clue from Management of Rivers State University that made public the name of a Professor who was sacked recently on issue bordering on extortion . Civil Rights Council describe the concealing of the identity of the sacked lecturer as improper and disturbing.
We equally call on IAUE to make public the names of nine other lecturers suspended on related offences . We believe that doing so will serve as deterrent to other intending lecturers who may have such tendency in them.
