The Rivers Drivers Welfare Association has summoned an emergency of its members next week Thursday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria to strategize on how to tackle the issue of extortion, molestation, intimidation of commercial drivers in Rivers state by security agencies mostly men of Nigerian Police in the year 2019 Revelation Agents has learnt

We gathered that others on the agenda of the meeting include how to tackle extortion of drivers by agberos (touts) among other things

Revelation gathered that the leadership of the drivers Welfare Association has already informed the drivers of the meeting but the venue is not known yet

A driver who spoke to Revelation Agents Online News on condition of anonymity hinted that they have decide to  stand against every form of extortion and intimidation by security agencies this year 2019

He told our reporter that the meeting was slated for next week Thursday because by then most of their members who travelled for Christmas holidays must have come back to PortHarcourt

The Driver hinted that the meeting will hold in PortHarcourt but the venue is not known yet

Before now, commercial drivers in Rivers state have always accused the Nigerian Police of extortion and intimidation

The Rivers state Police Spokesperson Omoni Nnamdi had always insisted that those with genuine complaints of extortion by any Police officer should report to the Police Authority in the state

When Revelation Agents Online News contacted the chairman of Drivers Welfare Association in Rivers State, Comrade Isaac.P. Lekia, on Telephone, He said” so you are aware of the meeting”

Comrade lekia further said “I will let you know if the meeting will hold or not, since I have your phone number”

The Rivers Civil Society Organization late last year held an Anti-Corruption Workshop with the association at Rumuokoro roundabout in Obi/Akpor,Rivers State to educate them on how to fight against extortion by security agencies
