Members of Drivers Welfare Association in Rivers State yesterday defiled the heavy down pour to attend Anti-corruption Rights Education Workshop organised by “We the people”,Rivers Civil Society Organisations held at Rumuokoro ,PortHarcourt, Rivers state,Nigeria.
In his opening remarks chairman of Drivers Welfare Association in Rivers state, comrade Isaac. P. lekia reminded members of the Drivers Welfare Association the role Rivers Civil Society Organisations and “We the People ” in demanding for justice for the late bus driver, Bright Mark Who was killed by a trigger Happy Police Officer at Rumuokoro on 18th February,2018.
Comrade Isaac advised the drivers to give the organisations all the necessary support.
The chairman of Rivers Civil Society Organisations comrade Enefaa Georgewill thanked the drivers for coming despite the heavy down pour.
He said “We are here to collaborate with you to ensure the rights of drivers are respected”.
He also educated the drivers on the documents they must possess while driving.
Comrade Enefaa urged the drivers to obey traffic rules and not to drink, Smoke, or make calls while driving.
The Executive Director of “We the People ” centre for social studies and development comrade Ken Henshaw said “We are here to collaborate with you on the fight against corruption,We are partners in development in this country,this country cannot move forward without stopping corruption”.
Drivers Who spoke at the event listed their challenges to include extortion by security agences, undefined bus stop and arbitary arrest by security agencies.
Other members of Rivers Civil Society Organisations Who were in attendance include Nkem Joan Dike,Ejit Josiah, among others.
