An Ekpeye monarch,  His Majesty, Eze Cassidy O. W. Ikegbidi, Eze Igbu Akoh ll has supported the objective of a group, Ekpeye Oil and Gas Pipelines Host Families Association (EOG) to correct the years of neglect by oil companies operating in the area.

Eze Ikegbidi gave the support yesterday, November 8, 2020 when the group paid him a solidarity visit in his palace at Ihugbogo Community in Ahoada East local government area, Rivers State.

Eze Ikegbidi in his speech frowned at  the lack  of  human capital and infrastructural development in Ekpeye land, adding that the time to change the story has come with the formation of a body like EOG.

He advised the group not to fight the traditional Institutions, elite and other stakeholders in its modalities to achieving its set objectives.

The Akoh monarch warned them not to indulge in any form of violence and facility vandalism in its quest to correct the abnormalie noting that consultation, dialogue should  always be deployed to achieve their goals.

He further advised the leadership of EOG that it should be wary of opportunists and saboteurs amongst the group.

The monarch reminded the group that royal fathers can not fight but will only advise, guide and direct the youths like he is doing now.

He also advised that all communities should be represented in the association irrespective of its status in oil and gas industry.

Speaking earlier, the National Chairman of EOG, Comr Chidi Dogini  informed the monarch that the body was formed to correct the many years of neglect by the oil and gas companies operating in Ekpeye land, that has caused more hardship and strife than development.

Dogini said the association was not formed as a parallel authority to the traditional Institutions, but to complement genuine efforts to reposition Ekpeye ethnic nation.

“What baffles me most is that Ekpeye Land has more than five oil and gas companies operating herein, but is only misery, poverty and strife they bring.

“No development. No human capacity building. No infrastructural development. Nothing to show.

“Ekpeye ethnic nation is not seen nor treated as an oil producing area, while it has oil and gas facilities littered all over,” he bemoaned.
