The Ubima Police division in Ikwerre Local Government Area on Saturday,March 19,2022 arrested Mr Eze Eleonu whose twelve year old daughter was allegedly defiled by Victor Elem in the community, on the alleged orders of the sister to the accused.The arrest of the father of the 12 year old physically challenged defilement survivor comes barely twenty four hours after the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), PortHarcourt arraigned Mr Victor Elem,the accused person in court who was remanded to Correctional Centre as Chief Magistrate V.L Kobani presiding over court Chief Magistrate Court 9 which the case was assigned to did not sit last Friday(March 18,2022).
In an interview with journalists,Mr Eze Eleonu disclosed that he was on his way to buy food for his twelve year old daughter who was allegedly defiled when some Police Officers Led by one Moses from Ubima Police division accosted him and told him that he is under arrest.Mr Eleonu narrated that the Police officers took him to station and asked him to make a statement that the sister to the accused person who allegedly defiled his(Eleonu) physically challenged daugther reported that on the day of the incident,he(Eleonu),his wife and another witness to the alleged defilement incident, broke into the accused person’s house and carted away 500,000 naira after the accused person was arrested.Mr Eleonu told our reporter that he wrote a statement to that effect and stated in writing that he is innocent of the allegation against him by the accused person.Mr Eleonu who said he was detained for over two hours noted that it was a ploy to intimidate him to abandon the case of the alleged defilement of his twelve year old physically challenged daughter.He called on the Rivers State Government and the public to come to his aide as there have been threats from some quarters on his life because of his resolved to follow up the case in court.In the meantime,Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign has criticized the manner in which Mr Eleonu was arrested by the same Ubima Police division that transferred the alleged defilement case to State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID).The National Coordinator of the group, Prince Wiro said he expected the Police to invite the father of the alleged defilement survivor if there is a complaint of any sought against him by the accused person.Mr Wiro stated that the manner in which the father of the girl was arrested suggest that there is a ploy to intimidate and harass him to abandon the case of the alleged defilement of his daughter which is already in court.Mr Wiro revealed that the organization will use means known to law,to resist attempt by person or group of persons to intimidate Mr Eleonu to abandon the case.Our correspondent reports that the accused person is expected to return to Chief Magistrate Court 9 on Monday,March 21 for proper arraignment.
