Greater Women Initiative For Health And Right Calls For Justice For Vera,Other Rape Victims

As Condemnation  continue to trail the rising cases of rape of women in Nigeria,a Non Governmental Organisation(NGO) known as Greater Women Initiative for Health And Right has added it voice in calling for Justice for all rape victims as well as Vera Uwaila,22 -Year -old girl who was raped inside a church in Benin city and died few days after as a result of injury she sustained .
In a procession on Thursday in its office at Port Harcourt,Rivers State, Nigeria,the Programme Officer of the group in the state,Peace Bai described the rape and Killing of Miss Uwaila as barbaric,horrific and most unfortunate. 
She expressed shock that the attackers could desecrate the sanctity of the house of God with impunity. 
The Programme Officer described the incident as one too many while calling for stiffer penalties for offenders. 
Mrs Bai expressed regret that the Nigerian system is not doing enough to protect the girl child and women in the society. 
According to the Programme Officer,there is no excuse for rape and a rapist should be treated as an armed robbers within legal context. 
She also called for Justice for other victims of rape. 
Our correspondent reports that members of the group were carrying placards with various inscriptions like ‘Say No To Rape ‘, ‘There Is No Excuse for Rape’,  ‘Stop Rape Today’, etc. 
It would be recalled that Barakat Bello 18 year old girl was killed in Ibadan,Oyo state in her father’s house for refusing been raped. 
The incident occurred barely seven days after the case of  Miss Uwaila.
