Azunda Elechi a leading  figure in late Deygbam cult leader’s camp Ekwueme Brown aka Lucifer was killed in an early morning shooting between the Police and the cultists on Thursday.

Mr Elechi who was said to be number five man in late Lucifer’s camp had mobilized other surviving members of the gang last Tuesday (May 30th,2023) to Ndele community in Emohua Local Government Area where two members of disbanded OSPAC (local Vigilante) group were beheaded and another two persons killed by the suspected cultists.

Mr Elechi who is said to be on a mission to avenge the death of their late leader, lucifer who was killed by joint effort of Police and members of vigilante  from Ndele  in his hideout at Agbia community,Yenagoa, Bayelsa state on September 30th,2019 remained in the community after killing four persons with a view to carrying out more attacks.

Sources privy to the development told Revelation Agents that the revitalized late lucifer’s gang led by Elechi  launched another attack in Ndele on Thursday morning, June 1,2023 with intention of killing more targets and establishing camps for kidnapping, came in encounter with Police and local Vigilance group who engaged the hoodlums in a shoot out.

The source disclosed that, the shoot out led to   Mr Elechi’s death while some of his men escaped with bullet wounds.

Late Lucifer was very notorious in hijacking vehicles and kidnapping Passengers in Emohua LGA axis of East West road between 2018 and early  2019 until he was dislodged from his camps in Ndele community by Police and members of local Vigilance group before running to Agbia community in Bayelsa where he was later killed by security forces. 

SP Grace Iringe Koko, Police Public Relations Officer in a statement  on Thursday, said in  the early hours of Thursday, June 1, 2023, Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command received information that one Mr Azunda Elechi  age 28 years from Omofo Community, Ndele Emouha, a notorious member of the Dey-Gbam Cult Group, was among those that carried out an attack at Mgbola Village, Ndele Emohua LGA, on Tuesday, 30th May, 2023, where four persons were left dead.

SP Koko said On Wednesday, 31st May, 2023, the Dey-Gbam Cult Group invaded the community again and  in a shootout between the cultists and the Police/local vigilantes, Azunda Elechi  was fatally injured. 

The Police image maker stated that one pump action and two live cartridges with three empty cartridge shells were recovered.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Nwonyi Emeka Polycard, has urged parents/guardians to monitor the activities of their children/wards so as to ensure they do not succumb to societal pressures to do crime. 

Similarly, members of the public are enjoined to remain law-abiding and report suspicious activities in their neighbourhood to the police.
