A human rights group,Legal Care Advocacy Foundation has urged the Police and other relevant security agencies to charge matters with penalty of death sentence to high court rather than magistrate courts where jurisdiction on such matter will be declined and inmates have to wait for years in prison custody without trial.
The Chairperson of the group Mrs Jane O.A. James Esq made the call during a walk in Port Harcourt to mark the International Human Rights Day with the Theme “Reducing Inequalities and Advancing Human Rights”.
Mrs James said the group embarked on the walk to say no to delayed legal advice,no to information filing,no to delayed justice, no to missing files.
Mrs James further stated that the essence of the walk is also to call on various stakeholders, the Government and individuals to advance the course of human rights in the society .
Earlier the group visited St.Mary State Primary School at Aggrey road to enlighten the pupils on their rights.
The Head Teacher of the school in her response commended the group for coming to enlighten the pupil on issues of fundamental human rights.
