Lawyers’ Watch For Justice International Initiative(LAWJII) in continuation of two days workshop for some paralegals in Rivers and Bayelsa states,trained participants on security and  advocacy against violence .

Speaking on advocacy against violence,Gbenga Oladapo,Executive Director of LAWJII listed gender violence,economic violence,workplace violence,assault,intimate violence,torture/extra-judicial killings etc as some forms of violence.

Mr Oladapo posited that one of the essence of advocacy against violence is to protect rights of vulnerable and marginalized  citizens.He stated that is very important for advocates to know how to document and report violence to relevant Authorities.

He listed Universal Declaration of Human Rights(UDHR),Covention on Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women(CEDAW),Anti-Torture Act,Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act etc as some of the international legal frame work against violence.

Another guest speaker,Mansur Ali who delivered lecture on security took the participants on practical steps of not being prey to hackers of facebook and whatzpp social media network.

Mr Ali also lectured the participants  how their sim cards can be locked which will make it impossible for anybody to use their simcard even when is stolen and inserted on another mobile device.

Participants were also shown how to ascertain if their whatzpp is linked to any other mobile phone as well as sending distress text messages when in danger.

High point of the event was a form issued to the participants to appraise performance and content of the training.
