Oba of Lagos, HRM Rilwan Akiolu in his remarks stated that the Nigeria Army killed the efficiency of the Police.He made this assertion in his opening remarks at a public hearing Today Organized by Nigeria Senate on “A Bill for an Act to Repeal the Police Act CAP P19 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 and Enact the Police Act, 2018. (SB. 682

He said ”the police is grossly underfunded, adequate funding and not the normal envelope budget is important, I believe that part of the multinationals profit should be set aside for the Nigeria Police” .
He also said ”the problems of the Nigeria Police are the government itself, the junior police officers, the political class and the Nigerian public. We should all have a change of attitude. The police are our friends” .
Senate President Bukola Saraki represented by Deputy Leader of the Senate, Sen. Ibn Na’Alla
said “the Police reform bill is certainly not an absolute panacea to our policing problems but will be a major contribution to addressing it”. Earlier the Senate President said “Your presence at this Public Hearing is a sure indication that you recognise the significance of this Bill.” – a
Alh. Bashiru Albasu, Representative of Emir of Kano in his own remarks said
“Good condition of the Police is dependent on salary, training and equipment. If we have these three, we would have an excellent Nigeria Police force.
Rtd IG of Police, Azubugbo in his own speech appealed to National Assembly on the plight of the police. Police has been the most potent stabilizer of the Nigerian Nation;the real issues are funding and training. We have to take care of their welfare before the police goes down more.
Rep. of the comptroller General of Prisons, Lawrence Alobi in his own contribuction said
“Nigeria Police is a critical institution of democracy. We need to strengthen them to enable them provide security to citizens.We need to insulate the Police from political control and manipulation.” –
