
Young Females Of Igbu-Akoh Kingdom of Ekpeye Ethnic Nationality,in Ahoada East Local Government Area has expressed their displeasure to Eze Cassidy Ikegbidi the Eze Igbu -Akoh 11 over high bride price placed on women.
The young females led by Comrade Elizabeth Okeagu noted that the high bride price has kept many ladies unmarried, in some cases prospective husbands run away after they are issued list of bride price.
Comrade Elizabeth also disclosed that the high pride price has led to ‘higher purchase’ of ladies, Marriage on credit as well as high rate of cohabiting.

At last, light seem to be found at the end of the tunnel for the young maidens and the entire women folk of the Igbu Akoh Kingdom as the paramount ruler of the Igbu Akoh Kingdom reveals the beginning of the process of bride price reduction in Igbu Akoh Kingdom.
Speaking at his palace at Ihugbogo Community in Ahoada East Local Government Area, His Majesty, Eze (Hon) Cassidy O. W Ikegbidi JP, AP, Eze Igbu Akoh II announced the decision of his council of chiefs and traditional rulers to kick start the process of bride price reduction in his kingdom, this he says will avoid illegal cohabitation and woo prospective suitors from far and near to his kingdom as beautiful maidens abound.
Eze Cassidy made this revelation over the weekend during the courtesy visit of Ugbedhe Igbu- Akoh Kingdom ( Young Females of Igbu Akoh Kingdom) led by the Pioneer President Comr. Eze, Elizabeth Okeagu.
Speaking during her address to the king, Comr. Elizabeth outlined the aims of the organisation and introduced her executives.
Elizabeth further informed the king of their aim of visit which include but not limited to congratulating him as their king and the right occupant of the reverend stool of the accient Akoh people while making a case for the young ladies to be carried along in the scheme of things especially on scholarships, grants, seminars, programmes etc.
Speaking further, Comr. Elizabeth passionately appealed to the king to wade into their plight as a lot of young girls who are due for marriage are unmarried, cohabitating illegally while some are out there on “credit marriages” occasioned by the exhorbitant cost of the marriage rites and processes in the kingdom.
She lamented the experiences of several ladies whose proposed suitors scamp for the alternative after been presented with the marriage list and processes, this she says has been a heavy burden to Akoh Young Ladies. The high point of the visit was the presentation of portrait to His Majesty.
While responding to demands made, Eze Cassidy gave kudos to the executives of Ugbedhe Igbu Akoh Dynasty (UIAD) for their bold step in deciding to come together in unity to advance the course of the young females in Igbu Akoh, the Igbu Akoh monarch adviced the Excos to run an all inclusive government and carry everyone along despite their level of education and exposure and warned them to avoid the temptation of allowing money and distrust tear them apart.
On the issue of bride price reduction, the paramount ruler cum custodian of the culture and traditions of the Igbu Akoh people, His Majesty, Eze (Hon) Cassidy O. W. ikegbidi JP, AP, revealed that plans are already in top gear to drive that process to a logical conclusion.
His Majesty reiterated his stand to protect and develop Akoh Kingdom as he admitted he has not come because of money as there is little or less money in the traditional institution compared to politics where he made a huge mark, left and has decided to serve his people.
The Igbu Akoh first class traditional ruler assured the young ladies of the reduction of the bride price of Akoh Young maidens who is ripe for marriage in no distant time.
In another development, the Big Ladies Social Club of Ekpeye chaired by Mrs. Hope Daniel and Co-Chaired by Mr. Iheanyi in the company of Ms. Stella Elese also paid a solidarity visit to Eze Igbu Akoh Kingdom.
They have come to appreciate him and align themselves with the palace as they believe he will do exploits just like when he was in politics.
His Majesty expressed his gladness at the honour accorded him and promised to do his best as he acknowledged God as the giver of power, strength and wisdom to lead while asking the people to keep praying for him now and always.
