One Mr Prince(surname withheld) said to be 22 years of age and another male suspect aged 33 from Akwa/Ibom State have been arrested on Thursday 8,July,2021 and detained at Elekahia Divisional Police headquarters,Port Harcourt,Rivers over attempt to defile a 16 year old female neighbour when she was breaking her prayer and fasting at their compound in Mummy B road, off stadium road, Port Harcourt.
The incident took place on Wednesday 30,June,2021.
The 16 year old girl  told Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign that she was inside her room breaking her prayer and fasting,when one of the suspect  Prince invaded her room ,forcing and beating her to subdue her in order to defile her while the second male suspect held her 10 year old younger brother who was outside the room and threatened him not to scream so as not to alert other neighbours .
The 16 year old girl who hail from Ebonyi State said the second suspect later
came inside the room after her younger brother ran away and threatened her to undress and cooperate with them if she does not want to receive further beating.
The 16 year old girl said the two male suspects beat her mercilessly,tore her clothes but she resisted them despite the physical assault and they fled when they reasoned her younger brother may have alerted people.
The 16 year old girl said she informed her Aunty about the incident when she came back from work in the evening and the incident was reported to the Police.
Comrade Gladys Onyenmwen Head of Teen and Children of the Centre, called for a thorough investigation by the Police  into the incident with a view to charging the suspects to court  if found culpable in course of investigation.
Comrade  Onyenmwen urged the Police to be professional in the course of their investigation while expressing concern on the seeming increase on Sexual and Gender Based Violence in the state.
