Police personnel from Rumulomeni Police Division located at Iwofe,Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers state on Tuesday morning,30 January,2024 rescued one Ben Bernard said to be a serial burglar from mob who wanted to lynch him after he was apprehended at Okocha street off Aka road,Iwofe .
We learnt that the suspect scaled the fence of a building to burgle the compound when a resident raised an alarm and the suspect was apprehended by neighbours who joined in giving him a hot chase.
Our source disclosed that another resident of the street called the Police that came to rescue the suspect and took him as well as his victims to Police station.
One of the complainants who simply identified himself as Kitoye in an interview with our reporter said “I stay in Okocha street .We have being having a wave of theft.People breaking into peoples compound and taking away their valued asset.
“Yesterday 29,January,2024 the same guy who was caught today came to my place,took my phone and after he took my phone,he wiped out my mother’s mother from her account
“He came by 6am because someone came to knock on my door .So as that person knocked on my door,I came out to hand over the phone that the place charged over night to him,so this guy entered behind my back, when I came back,I could not find my phone.
“I went out to make sure I retrieved the line,the network was down,I could not do it.That yesterday past.Now this morning the same person came back to steal again,he was caught around the area .
“He wiped out 50,000 naira from my mother’s phone.He said he monitored me as I opened the door and he entered while I was leaving”.
We gathered that the suspect has allegedly burgled many shops and compound in the area.
As at press,we learnt that the suspect has been taken to Rumulomeni Police Division for investigation.
