The Inspector General of Police, Nigerian Police Force,IGP Mohammed Adamu has said that commanders and senior officers who compromise discipline and human rights abuses will face stern disciplinary actions including possibility of removal.
IGP Adamu made the assertion during a meeting on Tuesday 8 January 2020 to with Commanders of the Police Mobile Force, Counterterrorism Units and the Special Protection Units of the Nigeria Police at the Force Headquarters Abuja.
He said “as we strive to enhance your orientation and strengthen your professional capacity in dealing with current and emerging crimes, let me remind you that as commanders, you shall be held accountable either directly or vicariously, not only for your actions or inactions but for the professional infractions of all the personnel under your command”.
IGP Adam regretted that of late, there have been reports of incidents of incivility to citizens, misuse of fire,illegal road blocks,unauthorized deployment and other professional misconduct.
The Police Boss disclosed that inline with Presidential directive,officers will not only be judged by the numbers of crime busted or numbers of convictions secured but also by how the process of discharge of their duties conforms to legal and standard practices in the Force.
