Residents of Okwelle-Soku waterfront community in Mile Two Diobu Port in Port Harcourt City Local Government Area of Rivers State are now counting their loss following fire inferno that engulfed makeshift houses in the area.

Our reporter who was at the scene of the incident, reports that over thirty makeshift rooms with property worth millions were completely razed down by the fire.

A member of PHALGA Security Service, CHUKWUMA ATAMKPO told our reporter at the scene of the fire that a female resident allegedly forgot to put off her candle which caused the fire and spread to other makeshift rooms another resident identified as CHRISTAIN ALALI claimed that the fire came from a cooking Stove which a resident forgot to put off and later exploded and gut the makeshift building fire.

Some of the victims of the fire including two female residents in an interview with newsmen lamented that they were at work when the fire started and on getting home their rooms has been razed completely by the fire and were not able to pick anything just as they called on Government to come to their rescue.

In the meantime; while neighborhood passerby especially the youths intervene to ensure that the fire is under control, members of the PHALGA security personnel were on ground to prevent hoodlums from looting property of residents that were brought out from the rooms by the owners.
