The Rivers State Commissioner of Police CP Olatunji Disu has reiterated warming against detention of suspects by vigilante groups in the state.CP Disu gave the warning during a live programme on treasure  98.5fm on Thursday May 9th,2024 monitored by our reporter.

The warning comes amid complaints of vigilante groups having detention facilities,engaging in extra judicial killings,torture and other unethical conducts.

On the alleged murder of two siblings of the same parent, Newman and Collins Ugorji in Idu community ONELGA,Rivers State by OSPAC(vigilante),the Rivers Police Boss explained that some suspects have been arrested and transferred to State CIID,PortHarcourt.He explained that the command is working on the matter and efforts are on to recover the corpse of the two siblings of the same parent. 

CP Disu however,encouraged members of the public to report such unethical conducts of vigilantes like detention,torture of suspects  to phone number 08161355218 through text message and instant attention will be given to the matter.

The Commissioner of Police asserted that the reports of armedrobbery along Igwuruta-Etche road and ‘one chance’ robbery incidents are   being addressed by the Police in the atate and some suspects have been arrested.

The Rivers Police Chief also explained that some Police officers involved in extortion and land grabbing has been arrested and tried.He adviced residents of the state to always report infractions by Police officers as he will think all is right if such incidents are not reported to him. 

On the huge success recorded by the Police in Rivers State under his leadership,CP Disu stated that it woulld not have been possible without dedicated officers of the command who are committed to crime fighting.

He explained that the Police Command will sustain the fight against cultism and other violent crimes in the state to ensure people go about their lawful business.

He also decried the risk Policemen face due to usage of tinted glass vehicles by some residents as investigation reveal that most kidnappers and armed robbers use tinted glass cars to perpetrate  crimes.

The State Police Chief adviced residents driving tinted glass cars  to always wine down their glass when approaching Police check points.

He pointed out that some criminals comes from outside the state to perpetrate crime in Rivers State.

CP Disu  cautioned people not to meet people they knew on social media in secret place but in public place as not to become victims of crime such as kidnapping.

He thanked residents of the state for their wonderful  support in terms of credible information about activities of criminals  and solicited for more support to rid the state of crime.
