Rivers monarch pledges to promote education in his domain

Ikuru town (Rivers), May 25, 2019 (NAN) King Aaron Ikuru, Paramount Ruler, Ikuru Town, Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers, said he would continue to promote education in his domain through the provision of improved teaching and learning facilities.

Ikuru made the pledge on Saturday while inaugurating the second residential quarters for teachers of Community Secondary School, Ikuru town.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the first residential quarters donated by the community’s governing council was a block of 14 single rooms, which has since been occupied by teachers of the school.

The monarch noted that the second quarters, a bungalow with six one bedroom flats was also donated to the school by the community’s governing council in collaboration with Green Energy/Lake Oil drilling company domiciled in the area.

He said that the lack of residential accommodation had in times past posed a major challenge for teachers posted to the community.

He said that accommodation challenges had led some of them to become unstable at their work stations.

Ikuru said that the provision of accommodation for teachers was a necessary thing as it would help teachers to settle down and positively impact on teaching and learning.

“As a retired teacher, I quite understand the challenges faced by teachers, who reside outside the school environment and the inherent burden in terms of rent.

“In my years of practice, I can also attest to the positive impact of isolation (Staff quaters) on teachers’ productivity and service delivery,” he said.

The paramount ruler charged the school authority to take advantage of the facility to rededicate itself to the development of education in the area.

Ikuru also praised the trustees of Green Energy/Lake Oil Joint Venture for remaining faithful to the provisions of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the parties involved in terms of their corporate social responsibility to the community.

“Indeed Green Energy/Lake Oil joint venture had shown great respect for our people especially in terms of their cooperate social responsibilities since assumption of oil exploration on our community.

” I urge you to do more as we appreciate this gesture and assure on a continued peace in your legitimate business in our land .

Responding on behalf of the joint venture, Mrs Ibioku Amachree, Administrative Manager, Green Energy International Ltd, expressed appreciation to the governing council of Ikuru town for its cooperation.

She said that the joint venture would remain supportive of positive initiatives geared toward improving the living standards of the people in its host community.

Mr Abadi Thursday, Principal of the Senior Secondary Section of the school, said he was thankful to the community for the gesture.
