The Rivers State Police Command has arrested two suspected child traffickers and rescued four children.

The Commissioner of Police,CP Nwonyi Emeka made the disclosure in a press briefing at Police headquarters,Moscow road,PortHarcourt on Thursday 26th,October,2023.

Giving details of the arrest,CP Emeka said 

following a case of abduction reported on 09/09/2023 by One Miss Ijeoma James, 35 years old, in Awalama Rumuokoro, Port Harcourt, on 16/08/2023 one Mr Promise came into their compound and stole her 4-year-old son Prosper James, and all efforts to locate her child proved abortive.

Police detectives Special Area division undercover swung into action by means of intelligence led policing, one Mr Ifesinachi Opara was arrested, which also led to the arrest of one Happiness, Enyinnaya Iheukwumere, A.K.A. Dr. Hagi, to whom he sold the child.

CP Emeka revealed tha further investigation also led to the recovery of three more children trafficked by Dr. Hagi from different locations of the country: three from Benue State, Benedict Kpaaka one year, seven month old, Godgift Julius 4 years old, and one Philomina ,6 years old female child,all rescued from different locations in Port Harcourt where they had been sold.

CP Emeka stated that further investigation revealed that one Angel Shimeson  25 years old, from Makurdi still (at large), is the supplier of the children to Dr. Hagi.

CP Emeka also explained that  combined surveillance team comprised of police, civil defense, the Nigerian Army, and some civilian JTF was on routine surveillance patrol at Abili Service Integrated Company attached to the Nigerian Agip Oil Company, Ob/Ob Gas Plant Obrikom Onelga Ukpeliede Community in Ahoada-West LGA in Rivers State arrested five suspected Ice-landers confraternities members presumed to have a hand in the death of the late DPO of Ahoada, SP. Bako Angbashim.

The Rivers Police Boss said they were brought to Area Command Omoku with the following items: two locally made guns, three live cartridges, and one wrist charm.

He said one of the suspects, named Ebere Uzorma, aged 35 years who sustained injuries in his last operation at Kumacy Camp in Ahoada West, was rushed to General Hospital Omoku for treatment, where he was confirmed dead by a Doctor on duty.

“The corpse was deposited at the same General Hospital Mortuary Omoku for autopsy, while the five arrested suspects, namely, Mr Bestman Friday Agbani, Mr Samuel Uchendu,Mr Abraham Ede, are in police custody for detail investigation.

In the same vein,CP Emeka revealed that on Wednesday, 25/10/23 at about 3:30pm, operatives of Ozuoba Division received a complaint from a good Samaritan and neighbor name withheld of Road 20, back of NTA Ozuoba,that about 2:00pm  he went to his house where one Mr Demain Okoligwe a follow tenant and perceived a very bad odour and immediately rushed to the police station, where the DPO led detectives to the scene.

“On arrival, the door was forcefully opened, and a Ghana must-go bag containing a lifeless body was recovered, back to the station and in a search of the flee suspects and boyfriend of the decease, one Demain Okoligwe 24years old, a petrochemical engineering 400 level student of Uniport boyfriend of the victim, occupant of the house, now the prime suspect who was traced last with the decrease was arrested for an inquiry.

“The lifeless body and butchered body of Miss Justina Otuene 20years old, a biochemistry 300-level student at Uniport, was recovered and deposited at the mortuary”

He stated that preliminary investigation is in progress, as the case has been transferred to SCID for discreet investigation. Meanwhile the Command has condoled with the family of the deceased victim while urging young ladies to be cautious and careful about person they involve with in any form of relationship.

CP Emeka also revealed that operatives of the command on joint raid of criminal hideouts, On 24/10/2023 went to some flash points in mile one Diobu, Azikiwe Division flash points, and Abali Division flash points at mile one Diobu where some suspects were arrested with quantity of weed substance suspected to be Indian hemp and other hard drugs were recovered.

He said screening and profiling is in progress as the case will be transferred to the Anti-Cultism Department for further investigation.

CP Emeka further called   on residents of the state to be open and supportive of security operatives in fighting crime and criminality.
