The State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) of the Rivers State Police Command yesterday night March 12,2019 released 30 INEC Adhoc staff who were were arrested allegedly arrested by men of Nigerian Navy and handed over to the Police on Saturday,March 9,2019 Revelation Agents has learnt
One Mr Peters Evans who claimed to be one of the persons arrested by the Navy in Bakana,Degema Local Government area of Rivers state of Nigeria during the Saturday March 9,2019 Governorship and House of Assembly elections in the state in a Telephone chat with Revelation Agents Online News said “after elections, we were moving to Degema LGA from Bakana before Navy men intercepted us and asked us the where about our SPO”
Peters Evans explained that when He and 29 others could not tell them where the SPO was,the Navy men asked them to hand over the result charges to them but they told the Navy it was with the SPO.
He revealed that the Navy men after making calls told them to follow them and they brought them through the water way and handed them over to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) incharge of Rumulomeni Divisional Police Headquarters st Iwofe in Port Harcourt,alleging they(Adhoc staff) were ballot box snatchers
He stated that they were later transferred to SCID on Sunday, March 10,2019
He told us that He and other 29 Adhoc staff where granted bail yesterday night when the Electoral officer in charge of the LGA came to SCID to intervene and demand their unconditional release
The Head of information and voters education in Rivers INEC did in a text message to Revelation Agents saidbthe head of legal services of the commission led the delegation to SCID
The Rivers state Police Spokesperson, Nnamdi Omoni did told Revelation Agents that INEC drew the attention of the Rivers state Commissioner of Police to detention of their staff at SCID,CP Usman Belel now instructed the Deputy Commissioner in charge of SCID to release the INEC staff unconditionally
It will be recalled that European Union mission observers and many others has accused the Nigerian Military of interfering with the electoral process in Rivers state
The Nigerian Military had through its Spokesperson, Colonel Musa Sagir,Deputy Director Army Public Relations claimed some hoodlums were impersonating the Nigerian Army to perpetrate evil and mayhem during the elections
Meanwhile Rowland Peters a cousin to Evans peters condemned the illegal detention of his brother who was on legitimate duty .
