The Rivers State Police command has confirmed the killing of Alex Uwazuruike Isaac,the leader of disbanded OSPAC in Umudioga community in Emohua local Government Area of the state on Tuesday, 27 July, 2021.
The spokesperson of Rivers State Police command, SP Nnamdi Omoni in a telephone interview with our reporter said the dismembered body of the victim has been recovered and deposited in the mortuary for preservation.
SP Omoni stated that the Police has restored normalcy in the community while the Commissioner of Police, CP Eboka Friday has ordered for investigation into the incident
Gunmen suspected to be cultists on Tuesday 27,July, 2021 invaded Umudioga community and killed Alex Uwazurike Isaac a leader of disbanded OSPAC,a local vigilance group in the area.
Natives of the community who pleaded anonymity disclosed that the gunmen with assault riffles invaded the community in the afternoon and went for their target.
Our source revealed that the gunmen shot Mr Isaac dead before he was beheaded and dismembered.
The source explained that the gunmen paraded the head of their victim in the community while urging natives not to panic as they came for the deceased only.
We gathered that some other members of the disbanded OSPAC have fled the community as a result of the killing of their former leader.
Many suspected cultists were killed and arrested in the community while others fled when OSPAC was inaugurated in the community in 2019.
The killing comes barely three weeks after the Chairman of Emohua Local Government Council, Dr.Chidi Lylod pronounced the proscription of all vigilance group in the LGA and asked communities that make up the Council area to submit five names of natives who will be screened and admitted into a new security outfit to be established and funded by the Council in no distant time.
