As controversy continues to rage over the arrest of TenderLife Rescue Initiative(TRI) operators of Orphanage and Transition home at Woji, Port Harcourt, Rivers State last week Wednesday by operatives attached to the Eagle(Commissioner’s Crack) Police Squad, Association of Orphans and Vulnerable Children NGOs in Nigeria (AONN) and other Civil Societies have said the arrest and media trial of Mrs Chinelo Odiakosa ,Executive Director of TRI seems to be a ploy by the Police to redeem the already battered image of the Eagle Crack Squad that are in eyes of the storm following the reports of torture of ‘Ikoku five’ and death of late Chima Ikwunado in their detention facility under questionable circumstance.
The Secretary of the group,Dr.Bernard Moses in a Telephone interview with Revelation Agents disclosed that they were surprised to note that on a day the whole world was waiting for the Commissioner of Police,CP Dandaura Mustapha to speak on the findings of the Police on the death of late Ikwunado, the Police without following due diligence paraded Executive Director of TRI and four expectant mothers before the media in what suggest to be an attempt by the Police to divert attention of the public from the case of ‘late Ikwunado’ which has attracted attention of international community.
The group dismissed allegations by the Police that TRI is operating a member factory. The Non Governmental Organization expressed regret that the Police has detained Mrs Odiakosa and eight others for eight days in total disregard to the constitution of the country that a suspect shall not be detained more than forty eight hours without arraigning the suspect in court or valid court order. The group called on the Police to release Mrs Odiakosa without further delay .
AONN revealed that the operation of TRI is known to Rivers State Ministry of Social Welfare contrary to claims by the Commissioner that the group is not known to the Ministry.
Earlier, four of the mothers of the babies in Police custody in an exclusive interview with Revelation Agents denied selling their babies. Kuna Dubabari who spoke on behalf of others explained that TRI rescued them from committing abortion when they were pregnant as they had no body to help them.
The mothers exonerated Mrs Odiakosa of any wrong doings.
Investigations by Revelations Agents showed that TRI is registered in Corporate Affairs Commission with registration number of CAC/IT/N0 113298.Our reporter also cited recommendation letters issued to the TRI by Rivers State Ministry of Social Welfare which is yet to expire.
The Spokesperson of Rivers State Police command, Deputy Superintendent of Police(DSP)Nnamdi Omoni had alleged in a press briefing last week Wednesday that men of Eagle Crack busted a child trafficking syndicate in Rivers State a claim the lawyer to TRI Barrister(Mrs) Eunice Uchendu Esq dismissed.
As at time of filing this report,Executive Director of TRI is detained at SCID.
