Eagle(commissioner) crack Police unit came in existence in late 2017 under the leadership of CP, Zaki Ahmed as the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State. The concept of Eagle crack was derived from the already existing crack team in Divisional Police headquarters,Mile 1 Diobu.
The Eagle crack other wise known as Commissioner of Police crack squad was specifically established to compliment the efforts of other Police stations in the state to combat violent crimes such as kidnapping, armedrobbery,cultism,among others violent crimes.
Eagle crack was designed as a tactical unit which is not limited by jurisdiction. As a tactical unit such as Special Anti-Robbery Squad(SARS),Anti-Cultism, Anti-Kidnapping, Counter-Terrorism, SCID, SOS, they are empowered to operate anywhere in the state.
The choice of Eagle crack to be cited in diobu was necessiated by the fact that Diobu is a major flashpoint for crime and also prone to cult activities.
Upon formation of the unit,a building formally used by traffic section of Mile 1 Diobu Divisional Police headquarters was assigned to the team while a detention facility of dreaded defunct team 6 Police unit of Mile 1 Diobu Divisional Police headquarters was assigned to them also.
The Eagle crack team by structural arrangement is to be supervised directly by the Commissioner of Police in Rivers state to eliminate bottle necks associated with operations of Divisional Police headquarters which reports to Area Commanders, Area Commanders inturn reports to Deputy Commissioner of Police operations and to the Commissioner of Police.
The team is structured to work on high profile cases referred to the unit by the Commissioner of Police as well as other violent crimes as instructed by the Commissioner of Police.
The team was meant to crack hardened and notorious criminals gangs in the state.
Eagle crack Police unit is located inside the same premises that houses Mile 1 Police Divisional headquarters. The Mile 1 Police station is led by a Chief Superintendent of Police(CSP who is a rank higher than the Eagle crack Police unit led by a Superintendent of Police(SP).
