The Police has tightened security in and around a University located at the heart of PortHarcourt over brewing cult activities even as three suspected cultists were arrested on Friday 13th October,2023.
Our correspondent who visited the University on Friday evening(13th October,2023),reports that there is visible Police patrol in and around the University campus.
In part of press statement by Rivers State Commissioner of Police on Friday 13th October,2023 titled: ARREST OF CULTISTS
The Rivers State Commissioner of Police,CP Nwonyi Emeka said at about 002hours on Friday operatives of the Nkpolu Division, received information from one of the Universities in Rivers State , that men of the underworld, driven in one grey-colored Lexus Salon Car with reg. no. ABC 699 KM, attacked and wounded one male victim name withheld who is a Computer Engineering student on his left leg inside the university.
CP Emeka who declined mentioning the name of the University,suspects,name of the cult group and victim disclosed that on receiving the information, police mobilised a patrol team, intercepted the said car at the university main gate, and arrested three suspects.
The Rivers Police Boss stated that an intensive search of the car led to the recovery of three sharp English axes and a locally made pistol. He said suspects and exhibit are in police custody while investigating on top gear,He added the Police operatives has visited the scene of the crime while the investigation is ongoing.
Meanwhile sources within the institution,told Revelation Agents that the cultists who were intercepted and arrested at the University main gate by Nkpolu Police Divisional Police headquarters,Mile 3 Diobu are suspected Black Axe cult members.
Our source say there seems to be an intra cult fighting between suspected Black Axe members over an attempt by one faction to overthrow their number one man.
Sources familiar with the working of the cult group revealed to our reporter that axe which represents symbol 7 is a major source of identification of the group.
However emerging reports indicates that the latest incident on the campus of the University on Friday 13th October,2023 is said to be an ongoing supremacy war between suspected Black Axe and Mafia Cult groups and not that of the reported intra fighting between members of suspected Black Axe members which is believed to have settled..
Sources very conversant with the workings of the University cult groups has urged the Police to ensure adequate security,visibility policing,intelligence gathering in and around the University campus to thwart upsurge of cult war as a result of likely reprisals and counter reprisals by suspected rival cult groups.
