We Cannot Give You Our Framework For Ogoni Clean-Up Implementation HYPREP Tells Social Action

Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project(HYPREP) has told a Non Governmental Organization, Social Development Integrated Centre(Social Action, Nigeria) that the  organization cannot make available its  frame work for Ogoni Clean-up implementation to Social Action or  the public because the information involves   internal management procedure

In a response letter written by HYPREP to Social Action which was dated June 28,2019 and signed by Grace Ekanem on behalf of the project coordinator ,HYPREP submitted that it is precluded from supplying information  in line with  section 12 1(a) of FOIA which provides  that,’ A public institution  may deny an application for any information which contains

a) Record compiled by any public institution………for internal matters of a public institution’’

HYPREP in the letter explained that the details of emergency measures carried out by the organization is on their website

HYPREP however attached the list of contractors for Ogoni Clean-up implementation in its letter to Social Action

Social Action had on June 10, 2019 written to HYPREP to furnish it with list of contractors, framework and emergency measures in Ogoni Clean-up implementation

While reacting to the refusal of HYPREP to make available the framework for Ogoni Clean-up implementation, Head of Advocacy of Social Action Mrs Vivian Bellonwu in a statement made available to Revelation Agents  said

 ‘We reject HYPREP’s claim in entirety and would take steps to compel HYPREP to submit itself to the tenets of transparency and accountability, needed to achieve desired goals and impact in the Clean-Up exercise’.

It would recalled that Mrs Vivian Bellonwu while briefing the press on June 10,2019 expressed concern over seeming lack of transparency and accountability by HYPREP in the  Ogoni Clean-up implementation
